InfoHQ Unveils 10 Computer Maintenance Tips for Home Computer Users


ENGLEWOOD, OHIO - FEBRUARY 8, 2002 – InfoHQ today unveiled its 10 tips for maintaining home computers.
Mark Hamel, webmaster of InfoHQ, commented that the 10 tips have evolved over the course of answering many letters from visitors to the InfoHQ.com web site. Mr. Hamel also added, "Its better to prevent a computer crash or data loss from occurring. Recovering lost data, reinstalling an operating system, or repairing mechanical failures, after a computer has crashed is costly and time consuming. By following our 10 maintenance tips, most home computer users should never experience a serious computer crash."

InfoHQ's 10 Computer Maintenance Tips

1. Never turn your computer off with the power switch until Windows has shut down.
2. We highly recommend that you purchase an UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
3. Backup, backup, backup, any data you cannot afford to lose.
4. Run Scandisk and Defragment at least once a month.
5. Never unplug peripherals from the computer when it is powered up.
6. Do keep at least 100 MBs of your C: drive free for Windows to use. If you use Windows Me or Windows XP then you should have 300 MBs or more of free space on your C: drive.
7. Do not let a lot of programs load up when you start your computer.
8. Do use a virus checker regularly.
9. If you have a high speed Internet connection you need a firewall program.
10. Keep track of the software disks you receive with your computer and new peripherals.
